Mothership TTRPG: So Much Space, So Little Time

If you’ve just listened to our recent Mothership podcast episode and want some more WTTQ thoughts, I got you covered. Could it be possible that the SECOND ever game we’ve played on WTTQ, be my ultimate favorite of season one? There’s so much space out there and regardless of Mothership being a game for only 7 years, there is already a massive Mothership galaxy of modules and content. I want to explore so many of its planets and I may never get to scratch the surface of what’s out there, but that’s the glory of being an explorer.

Lots of options and Lots of Fun

Overall, I got to experience eight different modules for Mothership and I have to say none of them failed to deliver an entertaining experience. The modules were Circle The Flame, Year Of The Rat, Another Bug Hunt, VR Dead, Rough Day At The Organ Factory, Decagone, Warped Behind Recognition, and Arkyvr. The layout, theming, and design of these modules kept me engaged while learning them and made me excited to run or play them! Most people think that SciFi horror is limited to derelict spaceships and violent aliens but there’s so much more out there. Weird planetary cities, powerful scifi tech objects, time loops and more can be found throughout the Mothership module library. You will find something that gets your creative spark ignited whether it’s for a short term, mid-length, or long term campaign. As of writing this on Dec. 21st, 2025, on the Tuesday Night Games Mothership Modules page, you can choose from SIXTY different modules.

Finally Ready To Homebrew

I do want to take a shot at running a homebrew mini campaign. In 2024, I read the eerily epic Fantasicland and it seems like the perfect setting to set up for a Mothership arc. Imagine being locked in at Universal or Disney with the Xenomorph or Predator, all the while separate parts of the theme park contain different factions and their own motives. I can see it now, you’ve got a small band of engineers who know everything about the park trapped somewhere needing rescue and in return they’ll help you fix a ride that’ll give you a good vantage point to potentially leave the park. Imagine you’ve entered a scifi-esque Animal Kingdom and the strange beasts have gotten out and your crew needs to find a way to contain them or avoid them at all costs. This scenario is definitely on the to-do list for the future of WTTQ. Maybe our first ever actual play? Time will tell.

And there’s SPACESHIPS!

One last piece of Mothership adventure that I left on the cutting room floor would have to be the spaceship rules. It brings a smile to my face to imagine my players piloting their rickety taped together spaceships through the outer rim just trying to get by and then all of a sudden space pirates try to take the ship out. Or they’re trying to pilot through a spaceship battle at the same time while dealing with some sort of evil beast alongside them on the ship. This game truly is a scifi and horror nerd’s Reeses cup.

The Shipbreaker’s Toolkit offers nine pre-made spaceships for your characters to pilot while also walking you through the process on how to build your own. The ship manifest sheet in Mothership details so many intricate parts of your ship like the deckplan, cargo, crew, weapons and more. The ship even has its own stats!! I would love to center a campaign around the crew’s journey of starting with their first space junker. Then by the end of the campaign it turns into something that the ship designers of Star Wars would be jealous of.

Get On The Mothership

So what have I learned overall from this game? There’s so much more to be explored within it! From our podcast review you can hear the praise of the rules system within this game. There’s something so elegant about creating a game so simple to play and run but still gives you so so many options to tinker with it. The community of this game is arguably the most creative and diehard backers of it. I know by the time this post has been published, there will be more to see and more to scream. I urge you to check it out!
